SUBMIT A VIDEO

Want to Appear on Submissions 101?

We've always showcased different instructors over the years and now we are back doing it again. The coolest part of all this is that the white or blue belts who started watching us in the early days are now likely black belts! Follow the steps below and you could find yourself on the Original Jiu Jitsu You Tube Channel!

Requirements to Submit a Video

Submissions 101 main focus is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and as such, we love to add videos that revolve around that art. However, we also love Judo, Japanese Jujutsu, MMA, Sambo, Catch, Wrestling and other grappling arts. Throws, joint locks, chokes...you get the idea. If you are a black belt level in any of the arts, we want to hear from you.

What to Send Us and Length of Video

We are looking for all types of technique videos, everything from fun complex moves to strong fundamental basics. Now, when we started Submissions 101, there was literally very few free videos out there. Today there are millions. So how do you stand out?

Demonstrate and TEACH those little tips that make the move just that much better. And remember your audience (beginners to advanced players)- we can all learn something.

Finally, your video is to be no longer than 2 minutes. Videos longer than this WILL NOT be accepted.

Style of Video: How to Film

Follow these steps:

  1. Make sure it is QUIET in your training space when you record. There is nothing worse that loud background noise. (like bags being it or a class in session). Poor audio on videos will be rejected. Try to record when no one else is around.
  2. Describe the move and what you are going to show at the beginning of the video. Make sure you introduce yourself.
  3. Don't get too wordy or talk too long but point out the specifics of the move.
  4. Change your body position so the viewer can see different angles of the move. Do this by repeating the move 3 times so the viewer can get a "360 degree" type of view.
  5. Show the move once in real time. The rest is done at "instruction speed."
  6. Make sure the background of your video is a wall or "non busy". Don't have people in the background training, walking or moving around-this distracts from the move you are trying to show.

How to Record

We've been at this for a long time and pioneered some simple tricks that made our videos so successful. Make sure you do the following:

  1. Make sure you and your uke (partner) are wearing two different color gis or uniforms so that the viewer can differentiate who  is who (and what limb is which).
  2. If you both wear black gis for example, the viewer often see where your limbs may be. Color contracts REALLY helps.

How to Introduce Yourself

We have a standard that we follow and your video should start with you saying "Hi, this is John Smith for Submissions 101 (and introduce your partner) and we are going to show you <insert name of move here>"

And make sure to have fun! Let your personality shine through.

Don't Edit the Video

Send us the raw video and we will add our intro and watermark. When you submit the video, make sure to write the following so we can add this to the description :

  1. Your Name
  2. Your Academy (or where you train)
  3. Your Logo (if you have one)
  4. Your website or Instagram @
  5. Your email or DM method so we can communicate with you.

How to Send Us a Video

We have three main ways for you to send us a video:

  1. Google Drive: Upload to Google Drive and send us the link (easiest).
  2. You Tube Link: if you have a you tube channel. upload it there UNLISTED and we can download it for edit.
  3. WhatsApp: allows videos to be sent up to several minutes long. We will provide our number so you can shoot it over.

Publishing Videos

Submissions 101 reserves the right to use or not use videos submitted. If the video is poor quality, the instruction is unclear and/or you fail to follow the above guidelines, we won't add it to the library. Videos will be added to You Tube first and then a week later, it will be added to our Instagram channel: @submissions101_

As we get back in the swing of things and build up our viewership again, you can expect thousands of views on your video (or tens of thousands). So, its a good marketing tool to help you spread your brand of Jiu Jitsu.
